S2il]bEr£aS our Eoyal Father and predecessor, King Recites the George the Third, of blessed memory, duly consider- ^q^^^I^ ing that the regulation of the Profession of Surgery Geo. n., was of the utmost importance to the public, and highly necessary to the welfare of mankind, and that the public sustained great injury from the defects in the system of surgical education in Ireland, and that the regularly educated Surgeons of the City of Dublin, in om- Kingdom of Ireland (who had become a numerous and considerable body), found themselves incompetent, from the want of a Charter, to establish a liberal and extensive system of surgical education in our said kingdom, by his Letters Patent, bearing date the 11th day of February, in the 24th year of a d 1784 his Eeign, did erect, found, and establish a CoUege or Corporation of Surgeons in the City of Dublin, by the name of The Eoyal College of Surgeons in Ireland. ^nK TOneaS the wise and benevolent design „3beneflciai and mtentiou of our Eoyal Father has, from that iafluenoe. period to the present day, had the most beneficial influence, by improving the Profession of Surgery, and thus promoting the welfare of the nation at large^ and particularly by providing a sufficient number of properly educated surgeons, as well for the service of the Public in general as for that of our Armv and Navy.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b21780857_0021.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
