Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia

Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia: plain chest x-ray This chest x-ray shows diffuse reticulonodular shadowing with relative sparing of the apices and costophrenic angles. A bronchoalveolar lavage sample demonstrated Pneumocystis carinii. This chest x-ray is also consistent with miliary tuberculosis. Patients with miliary tuberculosis tend to be less hypoxic.
