The saint is shown as a bishop surrounded by lions and a bear: according to his legend, he had tamed wild beasts while living in a forest

Saint Blaise, bishop of Sivas in Armenia, was invoked against diseases of the throat, and his patronage was claimed by woolworkers and laryngologists
