About this work

Description

Transmission electron micrograph of a monocytic cell in a deep corneal stromal ulcer. The cell shows a high degree of membrane activity and various organelles. A large nucleus is visible towards the top of the cell and a number of mitochondria can also be seen. A centriole is also visible adjacent to the nucleus as is a Golgi apparatus. Large scale matrix destruction can be observed around the cell - the area is devoid of fibrils and shows advanced collagenolysis.
