Adhiambo born in the evening : six weeks in the life of a Kenyan mother and her newborn daughter.

This film provides a unique and comples insight into the life of NyaSeme, a married mother and grandmother in her late 30s living in western Kenya, during the last month of her pregnancy and through the first weeks of her new-born daughter's life. The anthropologists making the film, Ruth and Wenzel, are expecting their first child while making the film. The first part of the film looks at the everyday life of NyaSeme. The second follows the various small illnesses that the child goes through and the herbs NyaSeme uses to treat her. The film provides a very personal account of a Kenyan village woman's life, motherhood, children and attitude to medicine and health. It also reflects well the kind of relationship that can be built between anthropologist and subject during ethnographic fieldwork.
