The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "A bizarre androgynous figure wearing a draped and fringed outfit and carrying a straw basket poses on roller skates. Roller-skating, or ‘rinking’ had been popular in England as early as 1870, and enjoyed an enormous revival around 1910."
