Ferrand, Jacques (& others)

Livre de receptes exprouveés [sic]. A collection of receipts by Ferrand and others written in the first half of the 16th cent., together with others by later hands, down to 1671: in French and Latin. Other receipts by other hands are dated: fol. xviii, 1602; fol. xxvv, 1604; fol. ii, 1638; fol. xxviv, 1666; fol. xxvii, 1668; fol. xxviiv, 1671. On the last two leaves are notes by the original compiler, dated 1550, giving details of the engagement and salaries of servants.

1 volume 78 ll. 4to. 18 x 14 cm. On vellum, modern vellum binding. There is an original foliation, i-lvii, now continued in pencil to 78; ff. xxix-liv, 58-67 are blank. A leaf is probably wanting after fol. 73. The earliest dated receipt is on fol. xvi: 'Recepte pour le mal de la Ratière composée par messire ferrand le ve de décembre M Vc XV'. Another on fol. xix reads: 'Ordonnance faicte pour moy par monsieur maître Jacques ferrand en mois d'auril mil cinqcens trentequatre'.
