About this work

Description

Shows one of the twelve systems of channels which run from the foot or hand through the major internal organs up to the throat, and which carry qi around the body. Each channel has a specifed number of acupuncture points symmetrically arranged on the left and right sides. The channels are sometimes called "meridians", but they should be distinguished: meridians are the lines on the charts while channels are the entities in the body. The present one shows the channel which passes through the region of the large intestine

Inscription in Chinese characters includes the labelling of each acupuncture point: "Hand yang ming large intestine channel. Left and right: 40 [acupuncture] points", i.e. the channel which passes through the region of the large intestine
