After considering, seriously considering tlie whole pre- tensions of vaccination, and the disastrous events that have happened, to vtrhich, principally, he has been an ^ye-wit- ness, .and having investigated candidly the excuses of Cow- pox failure, and the hypothetical argliinents in its support; he must say, thai had it fully answered the humane inten- tions of its ingenious inventor, and its vehement supporters, it would have proved one of the most beneficial discoveries ever invented. But it seems the vaccinators have been flying in the face of heaven, in introducing a beastly disease, and heaven holds them in derision—the Lord laugheth them to scorn. For, as it has fallen short, very short, and quite inade- quate to its purposes, from the many instances of failure, and having been succeeded by Cow-pox mange, ulcers, &c. which have happened, daily do happen, and may in future happen to an immense host of the vaccinated, he must in the most sincere and solemn manner declare, that he considers Cow- pox inoculation so defective in the most important points, for which it was ushered into the world, as to be no certain andi permanent security against Small-pox infection. There- fore, he shall continue to recommend Small-pox inocula- tion as the only experienced, certain, safe, mild, perma- aaent, and infallible means of preventing all the evil con- sequences of malignant natural Small-pox infection, when epidemic, the Small Pox, those who,-&qm facts, were afraid of trusting to vaccination? Cqu it be supposed any of those numerous poor would have died of Small I'ox, had the avenuts to Small-pox inoculation been open as heretofore ? Is it not a cruel tyranjiy, and illegal to force vaccination on those who desire it not ? Reflect on the unfortunate events of Mr. Read's cliildren. Park-street—one is forced, un- known to the parents, to be vaccinated by an enthusiastic vaccinator, when Small- pox inoculation was ordered. The child, like many others, some years after, caught the Small Pox very bad, and recovered ; but gave it the other, who died, of Small Pox very lately^ Are parents, tender parents to be forced into Cow- poxing ? This may become a question for the gentlemen of the long robe to ascer- tain in the courts of judicature, where vaccination would soon receive its con- demnation. If vaccination shuffled there with its hopes, its puffing reports and thinking, its ifs and ofs, it would be answered. The Court does not ask what you think, hope, or suppose, but what do you actually know of Cow Pox ou oath ? and, the answer must be, unless perjury be added to other injury. That it fre- quently fails of answering its proposed purposes, and, is productive of terrible trupli^>ns.
