About this work

Description

WHO grade: trachomatous trichiasis (TT) This is the upper tarsal conjunctiva of a patient with TT. Many eyelashes are rubbing on the cornea. This arises due to scarring of the tarsal conjunctiva causing the eyelid to turn inwards. This then causes an inturning of the eyelashes. With TT there is evidence of one or more eyelashes rubbing on the eyeball. Evidence of the recent removal of inturned eyelashes is also graded as trichiasis. Note: WHO = World Health Organization.
