About this work

Description

Holiday diary of a visit to Wiesbaden and a tour in Scotland. Author's holograph MS. The diary of the visit to Wiesbaden starts on April 8th and ends on June 28th, though Lady Lister did not return to England until July 10th. This information is given in a holograph entry made by Joseph Lister, dated 11/6/1893, on the page for July 10th in the diary. The tour in Scotland began on August 5th and lasted to October 4th. There are a few scattered entries for the rest of the year. The entries for June 11th and 13th contain lists of birds seen at Wiesbaden: there is a full list of 'Birds seen during April 21st to 2nd May' and 'in June', on the pages for January 1st and 2nd 1893 in the Diary. At the page for September 23rd is a pen-drawing of a gull described by Lady Lister as a 'Common gull'. Above this is a holograph note by her husband, dated 17/10/1897; 'Certainly the Herring Gull. See Jarrett, J. L.
