Description

Notes on the publication of Squire's 'Companion to the British Pharmacopoeia' and of P. W. Squire's 'Pocket Companion'. Compilers' holograph MSS. A title-page by the elder Squire reads: 'Account kept of sheets of 'Companion', both of these sent and returned, to and from Sub-editors: also to and from 'Vertue & Co.' There are also notes, some in pencil, of experiments, etc. on various medicinal substances. Pasted on the 6th leaf is an A.l.s. dated 29/11/1881 from Peter [Wyatt Squire] to his father, referring to a new edition of the 'Companion'. The first edition of this work appeared in 1864: the 'Pocket Companion' was first published in 1904. Produced in London.

Biographical note

The younger Squire was chemist to the medical staff of the royal household from 1867, and was knighted in 1918.
