About this work
Savitri was the daughter of King Aswa-pati and wife of Satyavan. Satyavan was destined to die within a year of their marriage, but when the fatal day came, Savitri pleaded with Yama for her husband's life. So impressed was Yama of Savitri's devotion that he granted her three boons, but Savitri begged and followed Yama until he restored Satyavan to life
