    Dr. Steele, in a valuable paper contained in the Edinburgh Journal, clxxxiii., has continued the series, and the following is the result:— Primary amputations. No. Deaths. Thigh . 32 .. 21 Leg . . 53 .. 22 Arm . . 49 .. 15 Fore-arm 35 .. 4 169 .. 62 These tables, together with my own, will suffice to supply materials for the consideration of those points which it will be the first object of this paper to discuss; but it will not be deemed an unnatural course for me to adopt my own as the groundwork, and refer to these in proof of any positions which may require it. I shall, therefore, re-cast my first table with reference to primary and intermediate amputations only, which will then stand as follows:— Table II. My own. First divi- sion.
