Description

Black and white photograph of Charles Jenkins Lumpkin posed leaning against an upholstered wooden chair with left hand on hip wearing glasses and a long dark frock coat. Lumpkin qualified with a diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and a medical degree from the University of Brussels, and practiced as a doctor in London in 1880, later teaching in Edinburgh and UCL, and then practiced across West Africa including Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Ghana, holding medical officer positions in the colonial medical service between the late 1880s-1910s.
