Note: A native of Philadelphia, Morton graduated MD at Edinburgh in 1823. He made important contributions to both anthropology and clinical medicine. This work, the first on pulmonary tuberculosis to be published in the USA, summarised the knowledge of the time and included vivid descriptions and illustrations of the disease
