About this work

Description

Group of tall stems with shiny green leaves and small yellow umbellifer flower heads. A popular culinary and medicinal herb of the Greeks and Romans. Edible plant with aromatic scent similar to celery; leaves can be used in salads; the root cooked as a vegetable; and the seeds baked in bread and biscuits. It was also used as a bath herb because of its reputation as a skin cleanser and deodoriser. The oil has been used in perfumes and in alcoholic drinks.
