About this work

Description

The lettering in the finished state identifies the man on horseback as the landowner. The gipsy is excusing himself for the game cooking in his pot by saying that his dog caught it. Accompanying the stern landlord on horseback is a younger, dishevelled man who smiles at the gipsy woman and gives her a coin
