About this work
Description
The winged figure of Satan brandishes a whip at the bearded Job who sits pleading up at God who appears from the stormy clouds above; his house collapses before him, flames escape from a house beyond; animals lie perished in the fields in the distance. An illustration from a Job 1:19 in the Bible symbolising a message of perseverance and endurance in the face of adversity. Job was a righteous and prosperous man blessed with a large family and great wealth who is tested by God for his resilience in the face of disaster.
