About this work

Description

Crick and James Watson were co-recipients of the Research Corporation Award for 1961, "for their revelation of the structure of DNA, the fundamental replicative unit of living matter, and for their further significant researches in the field of genetics" (citation). Unfortunately, the date set for the presentation of the Award (18 April, 1962) clashed with Crick's schedule, and he asked Watson to accept it on behalf of them both.

The file comprises correspondence (including a holograph letter from Watson to Crick, dated 21 March, 1962, in which he asked Crick to reconsider his non-attendance "as it tends to insult the Research Corporation") and a booklet about the Corporation entitled Activities of the Foundation (1960).
