    6. Establishment of Resuscitation Ward—Following the completion of the preceding item and the transfer of the work of the Fracture Clinics from the West side of the Casualty Department to be more closely associated with that of the Latilla Rehabilitation Unit, the plans for the conversion of the vacated rooms into a small Resuscitation Ward have been duly developed, but estimates of cost and licence are awaited. 7. Exterior redecoration and repairs of buildings.—The awaited labour became available and a considerable proportion of this work has been completed, and extensive necessary repairs to ironwork of balconies and fire-escape staircases are proceeding. 8. General internal * redecoration of Wards and Departments.— Approved in principle together with the curtain-cubicling of all wards (on the lines found satisfactory in Grant Ward). Estimates obtained, but in view of very high cost, progress is subject to a decision by the Ministry of Health. 9. Glazing to Theatres, Balconies, Main Entrance, Porch, etc.—Much of the replacement has been completed during the year. 10. Outside Private Entrance to Matron’s Flat.—Construction favoured by, but awaiting final approval of, the Ministry. 11. John Howard Wards.—On receipt of estimates, licence to be sought for connecting each bedroom to a hot and cold water service at the expense of funds in the hands of the Howard Ward Trustees. 12. Laundry.—New Tullis Steam-heated 4-roll Callender with Drying Unit attached, costing £2,417, installed in place of 6-roll Ironing Machine which was failing after over 25 years’ service. Consequential structural alterations and a limited extension of the Laundry’s accommodation involving £1,209, approved by the Ministry. The licenced portion of the work of repairing and improving the damaged road entrance to the Laundry and Boiler blouse has been completed. 13. X-ray Screening Unit for O.P. Examination Rooms.—Westinghouse Unit at £470 installed and certain other improvements on the Medical side of the Out-patient Department completed. 14. Cardiac Department.—“ The Lord George Nevill Cardiological De¬ partment ” established in 1923, is being refitted and its accommodation extended under the direction of Dr. R. Kemball Price. 15. Latilla Rehabilitation Unit.—Installation of Thermal Pool recommen¬ ded but in view of considerable cost and expected licencing difficulties, not furthered. 16. Gynaecological Department.-—Proposal for converting the old disused Operating Theatres into a ward for say ten additional gynaecological beds referred to the Architect. The use of this space for beds for the Radiotherapy Department recorded as a possible alternative. 17. Central Heating Plant.—The question of converting the high pressure steam plant for use with Oil Fuel, fully considered at the wish of the Ministry of Fuel and Power, with the assistance of the Technical Staff of the Petroleum Board. Approximate estimate of initial outlay, £3,750. Scheme in abeyance on the advice of the Ministry of Health. 18. Electricity Supply.—Change-over from Direct to Alternating Current calculated to cost the Plospital about £1,500 and the Brighton Cor¬ poration, £370. Still under consideration with the Corporation and the Ministry. 19. York Block.—Plan for improvement of Sanitary Annexes favoured by Ministry, but licence awaited. Estimate tor extension and improvement of Lighting Installation at £258 accepted. 20. Stephen Ralli Memorial Pathological Department.—Recommended plan for the construction of an additional floor, etc., approved by the Ministry of Health and licence issued on the condition that the work commences on the 1st February, 1947.
