Dr. Clouston has amply fulfilled the high expectations entertained by those who knew him during his student days, that he would take a distinguished place in whatever department of medicine he might specially adopt. He has made the best use of the opportunities for observation and study afforded him in his present sphere of work, and has enriched our professional literature with several valuable papers, which have won for him the esteem of his professional brethren. Amongst others I know that the late Sir James Simpson formed a very high opinion of his medical contributions as well as of his personal character. Dr. Clouston has shown himself to be possessed of all the qualifica¬ tions requisite for making him a most efficient superintendent of a lunatic asylum, and if the Directors of the Prestwich Asylum elect him to the office for which he is now a candidate, I am sure they will never have cause to regret their choice.
