    connection between tliem; as well as for occasional redundancies of explanation, whicli cannot now be removed without injury to the argument of the individual lectures. I need scarcely say, that I do not profess,, in this little work, to have entered exhaustively into the subject of Chronic Bronchitis, and the numerous diseases with which it is associated in the relation either of cause or of consequence. I trust, however, that I have succeeded in my object of demonstrating more clearly than has heretofore been done, the intimate connections between Chronic Bronchitis and certain constitutional and local conditions. I cannot refrain from expressing, in conclusion, my deep sense of obligation to my friend Dr. A. P. Stewart, late Senior Physician to the Middlesex Hospital, and also to my friend and present colleague Dr. Hem-y Thompson, for the kindness and liberality with which they have at all times, during many years, permitted me the free use of cases under their care; and, still more, for their having repeatedly transferred cases of their own to my care, when they were of a nature to assist my investigations.
