    ( 7* ) cerning its efficacy in that form of putrid fe-» ver. I have given it in one or two defperate cafes, and I could not obferve, that it either expedited or retarded the fatal event. I have given it in others, where the patients have recovered; but I could notprefume toafcribe the recovery to the efficacy of the opium. But with refpect to the low fever, fo fre- quently prevalent amongft the poor, parti- cularly if it be given with the cautions fo often alluded to above, in the earlier ftages of the complaint, I think I can fafdy give my teftimony both as to its power in curing and in fhortening the complaint. Thus, my good friend, I have communi- cated at fome length, though I hope not with tedious prolixity, my obfervations on this fubjecl.
