A tear falls from his right eye, as he weeps at the folly of mankind, and he points towards an unpeopled mountainous landscape, perhaps in accordance with his biography Diogenes Laertius IX.1, "Finally, having become a misanthrope and having left the beaten path, he lived in the mountains feeding on grass and plants"
