Apparently depicts the arrival at the valley of Alexander Loudon and his friends, holding chickens with which to test the toxic fumes emerging from the ground, as described in Loudon's letter communicated to the Royal Geographical Society by John Barrow, 28 December 1831, and reported by various journals
