    probably designate as “ squabbles/’ Thev were, however, of immense interest to the men who took part in them, and are important now as an indication of the times in which the actors lived. I have not scrupled to insert also a great deal of what may be called “ authentic gossip,” and there are plenty of anecdotes. At the end of the book I have added some special biographies of a few of the many eminent men who have been connected with the Bristol Royal Infirmary, but the majority of my biographical notes are incorporated in the substance of the book. I have had occasion to give a few details about some of the makers of the Infirmary who are still alive, but for obvious reasons I have said less about the living than about those whose work is over.
