    This year I would beg every subscriber to get, and get before the Slimmer is over, at least one new subscriber, and write to me to tell me their name or names and addresses, and the amount of the subscription. III IlfO—BMBWOP—tBP—MB3WBWM———BBaaW In-Patients.—Our total bed capacity last year was 473. This includes, for statistical purposes, the beds in the Cancer Wing. The number of patients admitted during the year was 7,779 ; the average cost of each in-patient per week being £4 15s. 7d., while the average stay amounted to 21-03 days and the cost of each patient was £14 7s. Id. Out-Patients.—51,210 new patients were admitted, and the atten¬ dances, at 238,888, again shewed a marked increase. The cost of each attendance was 1/10-63 and that of each patient 9/9-56. Expenditure for the year amounted to £135,421. The Income Account, which includes some very helpful legacies, came to £128,028, but the year’s working, unfortunately, closed with a deficit of £7,393. Our expenditure at the present rate exceeds the present rate of income, even including a generous estimate of possible legacies, by £18,000 to £20,000 a year, and it is exceedingly doubtful if we shall get through the year 1932 without a deficit. In this estimate the whole of our reserves are included so that it is vital to increase our normal income by £20,000 a year if we are to maintain, as we have so far succeeded in doing, all our beds open and services intact.
