    3° one than thofe already pointed out, it will be proper juft to mention; and that is, an inverfion of the edges of the eyelids, called by authors, Trichiafis. This, by caufing the hairs, growing out of the ciliary edges, inceflantly to rub againft the eye, greatly irritates it, fo as to bring on inflamma- ■ *• ' tion 5 which, if the caufe be not foon re¬ moved, will increafe and become violent. In a few inftances, alfo, a preternatural row of hairs has grown; which, without any inverfion of the lid, as in the cafe laft mentioned, have, by their friction againft the eye, greatly inflamed it. Having faid all, that appears to be ne- ceffary, on the nature and caufes of the Ophthalmy ; I now proceed to treat of the proper methods of cure. Bleeding is generally recommended, and cannot but be highly proper, in moft oph¬ thalmic cafes : but from what part, and in what manner, the blood fliould be taken, are, I apprehend, points which de- ferve a more particular attention, than has been ufually paid to them.
