Description

Black and white photograph comparing the hats of a man with osteitis deformans. The cap on the left was worn by the patient before the disease appeared [1844], to the right his hat when his condition fully developed [1875]. One of a series of eight photographs of the case of osteitis deformans, originally described by Sir James Paget in: "On a form of chronic inflammation of the bones (osteitis deformans)." 'Medico-Chirurgical Transactions' vol LX (1877) pp37-64. Photograph presented to the Museum by Archibald Hamilton, MD of Windermere.
