    giving of tone, were the great views of pradlitioners. OF ULCERS. THE late ingenious Mr. John Hun- ter has furnifhed many curious remarks on morbid adion. Let us take a Ihort view of the treatment of Ulcers ; and fee how far it is founded on our prin- ciples. Wounds, in whatever manner pro- duced, from certain unknown caufes, in fome inilances become foul, and unhealthy ulcers. The matter fecreted in them is either thin, acrid, or fanioiis. The pecu- liar modification ol adlion, which then exifls in the vefiels, difpofes them to this unto- ward difcharge. In thefe circumfiances, a cure is not readily efifedled; the ulcer pro- ceeds to acquire a worfe appearance, and the aid of phyfic becomes requisite, to give it a better alpedt. In thele cafes, before, we can do any thing of the leafi advantage to the patient, a change mufl be effeded in the mode of acflion, by which the velTels mufl be difpofed to another modification. more
