"Notes from memory of proposed letter to Mr Justice, dictated by Mr Burroughs on Saturday January 7th 1893, which letter was not sent...."

10 January, 1893. Burroughs to W F Horton [Wyeth Representative], 30 Snow Hill [typescript copy], concerning "the cancelling of certain trade marks, of which the name of Messrs Wyeth & Brother form a part."

10 January, 1893. William F Horton to Burroughs, in reply. "I cannot give you such assurance."

18 January, 1893. Sudlow to Burroughs [copy], suggesting advice should be sought from either Mr Radford or Mr Justice about dispute over the contractual relationship with Wyeth. "On enquiry of Mr Wellcome he says that in respect to your transaction with Mr Horton he had no knowledge whatever...."

1 February, 1893. Philadelphia, Burroughs to Wyeth, on the sale of Wyeth's "Beef Juice".

9 February, 1893. Wyeth to Burroughs.

10 February, 1893. New York, Burroughs to Wyeth, thanking for the services of a shorthand writer. "I shall be pleased to hear from you whether or no you desire a formal cancellation of the contract of 1878...."

10 February, 1893. New York, Burroughs to Burroughs Wellcome & Co. "I am of the opinion that they have no moral or legal right to sell any goods in our territory [and] that the question should be investigated carefully by Mr Radford & nothing done in the matter without legal advice."

22 February, 1893. London, Radford & Frankland, Solicitors, to Wyeth, requesting copies of documents.

24 February, 1893. Chicago, Burroughs to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, concerning new price list.

28 February, 1893. Horton to Burroughs [copy], written following Horton called upon Mr Radford.

28 March, 1893. Philadelphia, Theodore Barrett [Lawyer] to Burroughs, enclosing "copy of your contract with W & Bro" [not attached]

4 April, 1893. Philadelphia, Barrett & Knaus, Solicitors, to Wyeth [copy]. "... we have advised Messrs Burroughs Wellcome & Co that John Wyeth & Bro have no right to ship or sell any of their goods or preparations to any party or parties in Europe, Asia, Africa or Australasia, except through Mr Burroughs or his firm."

Radford & Frankland to Henry Wellcome, beginning: "If you have stated to Mr Horton that you considered that the Contract which Messrs Wyeth made with me in 1878 and which was the basis of my business here is abrogated and annulled on both sides I think you have made a serious error."

13 April, 1893. Burroughs to Wellcome, referring to the missing contract between Burroughs and Wyeth. "Fortunately I found the original draft in Philadelphia, and have sent a copy to Mr Radford."

19 April, 1893. Burroughs to Wellcome, beginning: "Mr Ball informs me that Mr Horton, Wyeth's representative, is sending around letters and price lists to all of our best customers. They are cutting the prices and are working in a very insidious manner to undermine our business in this country."

27 April, 1893. Burroughs to Wellcome, referring to having consulted Barrett & Knaus.

4 May, 1893. Burroughs to Wyeth, referring to the contract of 1878, which "lately been found," a copy of which has been sent to Horton.

26 May, 1873. Radford & Frankland to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, together with a copy of a proposed letter to Horton (with which it is intended to provide a copy of the Contract of 1878).

27 May, 1873. S S Umbria, Burroughs to Barrett & Knaus, noting the sending of various documents (itemised).

30 May, 1893. Burroughs to Barrett & Knaus, requesting they take no action but first provide an opinion.

30 May, 1893. Paris, Burroughs to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, asking if copies of various documents have been made. "I shall of course be willing that Mr Wellcome should show them to his Solicitor & approve of Mr Radford's suggestion that they should be submitted to independent Counsel to be agreed upon." The letter closes with the suggestion that it is Wellcome who has lost the Contract of 1878.

7 June, 1893. Philadelphia, Barrett & Knaus to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, presenting a list of eight questions for considered response.

9 June, 1893. Philadelphia, Theodore Barrett to Burroughs, including an original copy (Barrett's hand) of a letter to Wyeth's solicitor.

30 June, 1893. Philadelphia, Theodore Barrett to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, pleased "to notice your statement explaining Wellcome's letter of Nov 5 '88 to W & Bros - to the effect that you had no intention of annulling contract of 78 - and did not." Consequently, "a way is opened for a more hopeful examination of the information requested from you...."

12 July, 1893. Burroughs to Barrett & Knaus, referring to their letter of 7 July and supplying various answers to questions asked.

19 July, 1893. Burroughs to Barrett & Knaus, adding a small detail on prices charged by Wyeth for Chloramine Pastilles.

25 July, 1893. Philadelphia, Barrett & Knaus to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, referring to Burroughs's letter 12 July - "not as full and specific...as we not only desire but I think required."

4 August, 1893. Burroughs to Barrett. "Mr Wellcome's letter to Messrs Wyeth of November 5th 1888 has been submitted to Messrs Radford & Frankland, Solicitors here. They are of the opinion that Mr Wellcome acting as a member of the firm by writing that letter cancelled the contract. They consider, however...." - Burroughs summarises further, qualified opinion by Radford and Frankland.

23 October, 1893. Philadelphia, Wyeth to Burroughs (New York), declining a personal meeting ("it seems scarcely worth while for you to come over so hurriedly, as you advise us you leave on the Teutonic on Wednesday") and suggesting, instead, that Burroughs speaks to Horton in London.
