In the foreground, people on foot or on horseback admire the city from a hill. Below them, outside the city walls, are extensive kitchen gardens. The key identifies 36 buildings including the leaning tower Torre Garisenda and its neighbour Torre degli Asinelli (nos. 12 and 11), the basilica of San Petronio (1) and the "Studio publico" (university, 13). Right, a compass showing the orientation
