Description
Chief engineer to the government of Afghanistan. "Engineer’s apprentice, 1875-78; manager of foundry and engineering works, 1879-83; with a mercantile firm in India, 1883-85; introduced into Afghanistan many and various industries, including works for the manufacture of guns, rifles, ammunition, swords, coining, distilling, soap, candles, etc; Ambassador for His Highness the Amir to His Excellency the Viceroy of India in 1893, and at the satisfactory conclusion of the negotiations awarded a knighthood and CSI and thanked by Her Majesty's Government; awarded an Afghan decoration by His Highness the Amir, with other presents at various periods"--Who was who.
