    backward in the “Order of Movements. Except for these items it may be assumed that the two books are in harmony in general idea, though not in scope. The instruction contained in the Handbook, unlike the Syllabus, is not “ intended to represent a minimum of physical exercises for schools ”—but to give teachers and students an opportunity of applying their minds to the consideration of those principles which the compilers of the Syllabus state in their Report to be of the “ utmost importance.” The exercises of the Syllabus (with four exceptions) are all introduced in the Hand- book, and about 400 others on the same plan are added.
