Description
Induction video for new staff working for Tower Hamlets Health Authority. The programme gives a brief history of the Tower Hamlets area (Bethnal Green, Globe Town, Bow, Poplar, Isle of Dogs, Wapping and Stepney) and the development of healthcare there. Outbreak of Cholera in the 19th century is mentioned before current problems such as tuberculosis, coronary heart disease, lung cancer and breast cancer. The diverse, multicultural society is emphasised before an overview of the main areas covered by the Community and Priority Services. The new concept of the NHS Trust is explained; Tower Hamlets was one of the first NHS Trusts. The Royal London Hospital and Royal London Trust are also covered.
