Scarce; a fine specimen 25 Coleridge (Samuel Taylor) poet, philosopher b. 1770, d. 1834 A.L.s. 3 pages folio, to Geo. Dyer [Feb. 17, 1795]. An interesting specimen He is in great trouble as to his proposed journey to Scotland. He has payed his addresses to a young lady, who had, in his favour, rejected the advances of two other suitors, one a man of large fortune; and by her persevering attachment, had disobliged her relations to a great degree. “ To leave her for two or three years would, I fear, be sacri- ficing her health and happiness.” He has been lecturing at Bristol on politics, where “mobs and mayors, blockheads and brickbats, placards and pressgangs,” are leagued against him. He is about to write to Scott, at the Telegraph Office, to know if he can get a Reporter’s place. He says of Southey “he is a man of perpendicular virtue, a downright republican,” etc. A capital letter. 26 Compton (Henry) Bishop of London b. 1632, d. 1713 A.L.s. 1 page 4to. July 26, 1690.
