    entertainments; they have already endowed two cots at a cost of £2,000, and they are now giving the money they collect towards the upkeep of the Hospital, which is^fcuch appreciated. The Members of the Club, and the Ho*rary Secretary, Mr. Ghest, have done splendid service in organ¬ ising the various efforts. Mrs. Player said that she had received a letter from her old friend Mr. Samuel Thorpe, enclosing a cheque for 100 guineas, as a contribution to the Hospital—another of his generous acts. It will be remembered that lie has al- readv en lowed two cots. » In rising to second the adoption of the Reports, the Sheriff expressed the regrets of the Lord Mayor in his inability to attend the Meeting. He said that when he and the Lord Mavor receive invitations to functions of this sort i/ they sometimes wonder whether they do any good at all by coming, but on considering that there are many people who are doing this good work quietly, all the year round, it is only right that the civic heads should visit them and see for themselves what is being done, and if their visits were any encouragement, they had very great pleasure in coming. The Sheriff said there was no doubt that the Hospital is doing a very great work in the City of Nottingham, and that there were hundreds of men and women living healthy lives as the result of treatment they had received when •/ children. He said that the City of Nottingham had a lot to be thankful for—its children, however poor, could go to the Hospital and receive the very best treatment and atten¬ tion available. Looking down the Balance Sheet, the Sheriff remarked that it read very much like the reports of the Corporation spending committees, but unlike the Hospital, they have only to ask for money and they get it; but there is this about Nottingham people—if it is for a good cause the money will be forthcoming. The Sheriff concluded bv wishing every success to the Hospital, wThich had such an influence for good amongst the young children of the City. Mr. Player, in supporfing the adoption of the Reports, wished to make reference to one or two matters therein.
