Description

Original letter-book of the Dinapore Division: containing numerous details relating to the Medical Services. The material has been disbound from it's previous volume for preservation and access reasons, arranged into date order and placed into 18 separate files.

The letter-book entries run from 9th January 1840 to 12 December 1841. There is also, however, various material dated 1832, 1833, 1836, 1838, 1839 and 1850. Some miscellaneous undated documents have been grouped together and placed in file 1 of 18. The document dated 1850 is file 18 of 18 and comprises the enlistment document of James Tillery into the East India Company Infantry forces, 27 Sep 1850.

Please note that much of the material is in fragile condition and should be handled with care.

415 ll. (18 files) folio. 381/2 x 21 cm. Original half-calf binding. Some leaves affected by damp, margins frayed, etc. The item was disbound in June 2011 and placed into 18 separate folders.

Purchased 1932.

Biographical note

Dinapore had a General Hospital which was established before 1786, and was one of the earliest to be set up in Bengal.
