Many people experience insomnia at some point in their lives. However, little is understood about sleep regulation. Güliz Özcan’s research investigates the implications of the sleep disturbances commonly experienced by people with Alzheimer’s disease. She hopes to unravel the role of amyloid β, a critical protein in Alzheimer’s, in the sleep-wake cycle – with implications for healthy people too.
