Join artist Joshua Bilton for a performance lecture on his research exploring the role of the spirit double and how it can be used as a form of processing loss, grief, uncertainty and emptiness. The immersive experience will include birdsongs performed as laments by cellist and composer Gregor Riddell and dancers, including a sunbird emoji. You will also be invited to wrap an object as an offering that will form part of the artwork.
We’ll be in the Studio on level 1. When you enter Wellcome Collection, head up the stairs or take the lift, then follow the signs.

Joshua Bilton is a multidisciplinary artist based in London. His work uses constructed personas to explore the relationship between an environment and its histories. The format of the workshop is integral to his process, adopting this as a method of research, participation and collaboration. Recent interventions include Tate Exchange with Kettle’s Yard, London, 2019.
Frieda Luk is a performance artist interested in improvised movement. Her research and approach is inspired by holistic wellbeing, Butoh and Skinner Releasing Technique.
Gregor Riddell plays the cello and writes music. He is a founding member of numerous ensembles including BirdWorld, Tre Voci, Solstice Quartet, Living Room in London and Odysseus Piano Trio with whom he has performed internationally. Gregor was born in London, studied music at Cambridge University and composition at the Royal College of Music. He currently lives both in London and Oslo.
Sim Gray is a performance artist, undertaking practical and theoretical studies in the mythology of movement. Re-contextualising the psychic intimacy of collective experience, she intends to create a platform for performance that is as engaged with personal transformation as it is with public presentation.
