Tuesday 3 May 2016 - Sunday 17 July 2016
We have invited an artist a week to programme or perform live vocalisations in the 'THIS IS A VOICE' gallery space, offering an intimate, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the mechanics of voice production and vocal exercises.
12-17 July 2016
Sequenza III (1965) by Luciano Berio remains one of the most controversial, iconic and technically demanding works for a solo voice in the avant-garde repertoire with a staggering 40 emotional instructions ranging from coy to desperate. Known for his intense and mercurial performances, artist Mikhail Karikis takes on the challenge to practise this work live in Wellcome Collection, with different experts and voice coaches throughout the week who will offer their insights and suggest different interpretations of this work. Karikis’s week of performances will also provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the demands of a rehearsal process.
