What you’ll do

Join artist Jason Wilsher-Mills and curator Shamita Sharmacharja for a conversation inside the exhibition ‘Jason and the Adventure of 254’.

Gain a personal insight into Jason’s colourful and immersive installation and the ideas it explores around disability, creativity and childhood. Jason and Shamita will share some of their highlights of the exhibition and discuss behind-the-scenes processes involved in making the new work.

After the conversation you will be able to ask questions, and reflect and connect with others. Refreshments of tea, coffee, biscuits and fruit will be provided.

If you need a space away from the event at any time, you can come to our Chill-Out Room. There will be low lighting, comfortable seating, cushions, mats and space to move around and be yourself. You can also make use of ear defenders, earplugs, board games, stim toys and materials with different textures.

Location

We’ll be in Gallery 2. To get there, go up the stairs or take the lift to level 1.

Place not guaranteed

Booking a ticket for a free event does not guarantee you a place. You should aim to arrive 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to start to claim your place. If you do not arrive on time, your place may be given to someone on the waiting list.

Jason Wilsher-Mills

Artist

Jason Wilsher-Mills is a disabled artist born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, now living in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. The son of a coal miner, he is the youngest of eight children and grew up on council estates in Wakefield. He was the first in his family to go to university, and studied painting at the Cardiff School of Art and Design.

Shamita Sharmacharja

Curator

Shamita Sharmacharja is a curator at Wellcome Collection. In addition to ‘Jason and the Adventure of 254’, she has curated exhibitions such as ‘Genetic Automata’ (2023), ‘Play Well’ (2019) and ‘Can Graphic Design Save Your Life?’ (2017). Before Wellcome Collection, Shamita worked as a curator at the Whitechapel Gallery and assistant curator at Tate Modern.
