What you’ll do
In this workshop you’ll be looking at the museum and its collections through a queer lens. Starting in the ‘Medicine Man’ gallery, you’ll be looking for clues to LGBTQI+ experiences in the historical items on display. You’ll then have the opportunity to share your discoveries and discuss how they relate to contemporary experiences of queerness.
We’ll then move to the Viewing Room, where you’ll be able to examine material from our collections in three case studies. The material on display will be from:
- the Trans Action Group (TAG) Newsletter
- the Gardiner Collection of photographs of male/female impersonators
- and a selection of zines relating to the trans and queer experience.
Finally, you’ll be invited to share your feedback on what material about queer experiences might be included in a future gallery.
