What you’ll do

Join a discussion about artists making autobiographical work on pain and trauma. Hosts Martin O’Brien, Mele Broomes and Amelia Stubberfield will open up conversation about the tense line between raising visibility and exploitation, and ask whether there is such a thing as competitive trauma.

About your hosts

Martin O’Brien

Martin O’Brien is a performance artist and scholar. Both his practice and research are concerned with the performance and representation of illness and disability.

Mele Broomes

Mele Broomes is an award-winning Black British choreographer director, dancer and experimental vocalist. Mele embodies stories from the collective consciousness, creating visceral and sensory collaborations through her ancestral inheritance. She activates social questions, remembers and celebrates.

Amelia Stubberfield

Amelia Stubberfield is a theatre maker, actor, comedian and writer who trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Recent projects include a UK-wide tour of ‘Bullish’ by critically acclaimed company Milk Presents, ‘Call It A Day’ by Greg Wohead at The Yard and ‘Dear Elizabeth’ at The Gate Theatre. They have also been listed as ‘one to watch’ by the Funny Women Awards.
