Description

The illustration shows a human figure lying face downwards. The distances between anatomical locations are inscribed on the body, using proportionate measurement terms. See 'Lettering' for details.

Lettering

Picture title: Linear measurements of the bones on the prone figure. Other lettering: From the hairline at the nape (xiangfa) down to the [top of the] backbone (beigu) is 2½ cun (Chinese inches). From the spine (lügu) to the sacrococcygeal region (weidi) there are 21 sections, measuring 3 chi (Chinese feet). From the shoulder to the elbow is 1 chi 7 cun (Chinese inches). From the wrist to the proximal joint (benjie) of the middle finger is 4 cun. From the elbow to the wrist is 1 chi 2 cun. From the proximal joint to the distal [extremity] of the middle finger is 4½ cun. The circumference of the waist is 4 chi 2 cun. The foot is 1 chi 2 cun long.
