Description

Transmission electron micrograph showing the degeneration of the myelin sheath surrounding a nerve fibre in the scleral stroma. This disruption is occurring at the site of ulceration due to the disease necrotising scleritis and may in part explain the painful symptoms. The field is approximately 4 microns across.
